A Turkish Residence Permit, which we call “Kimlik” in Turkish, is an authorization for foreigners to remain in Turkey for a longer period than their visa validation. A residence permit enables foreigners to live in Turkey as tourist, study, get married, get a tax number, open a bank account, purchase property, make investments, and much more.
If you are thinking of moving to Turkey for a short or a long period then you must need permission from the government of Turkey to stay as a foreigner.

- Tourist Residence Permit:
If you come to Turkey on a tourist visa and your tourist visa is expiring soon and you need to stay in Turkey for some more period then you can apply for a Tourist Residence permit. It is a short-term residence permit provided by the Turkish government which allows foreigners to stay in Turkey for some more period of time. You have to apply for your tourist residence permit before the expiration of your visa. It is preferred to apply for your residence permit before a week of your visa expiration.
It is a short-term residence permit that can be given to foreigners on the basis of their tourist stay in Turkey. Usually, Its validation period is between 6 months to 1 year.

- Residence Permit by an Investment:
It is a long-term residence permit with a validity of two or more than two years but after expiring the residence permit, foreigners can apply for its renewal.
Turkish government allows foreigners to stay in Turkey if they buy a property in Turkey. No matter what is the cost of that property, they can get a residency by their investment in Turkey. Foreigners can get this residency if they come to Turkey on a visa and then they buy a property in Turkey in the valid period of the visa. After buying a property which can be a villa or an apartment, they can apply for residency for staying more in Turkey. Foreigners can buy any property on their tourist visas. If they couldn't buy a property in the time period of the visa then they can apply for tourist residency first so after that, they can stay in Turkey and can buy a property. So after buying the property, they can convert it into a long-term residence permit.

- Student Residence Permit:
This residence permit is for the student who wants to study in Turkey. Mostly, students come to turkey on their student visa with a validation period of 90 days and after that, they have to get a student residence permit to stay more in turkey as a student. The student residence permit is given only to the international students studying in any university, school, or college in Turkey. Its validation period is not specified. On student permit, students are not allowed to do works as well. For working in Turkey, they have to get a work permit first.

- Work Permit:
If your purpose of moving to Turkey is working, you will only need a work permit for work in Turkey. You can get a work permit by registering your company in Turkey, You can also get a work permit from any company in Turkey which obeys all the rules and regulations of the Turkish government for a work permit.
